I wasn’t sure to get this upper bc of the recoil . I said let do it ! When I got I was blown away wow no recoil at all . At least on mine maybe bc it’s 556 but still . Love it ! I’ve had zero issues with the upper. I would by again .

Absolutely love these uppers. Top quality and perfectly fit mil-spec uppers. I’m absolutely amazed with the quality. Definitely worth the money. 7.62 version is loud but fun. This are the perfect size for bug out. Highly recommend!

This is the second Maxim Defense PDX upper that I purchased. Both are 7.62×39. I mounted it on an Aero precision lower with a trigger tech trigger, and run the JP H2 buffer system. It runs flawlessly, I use 20 or 28 round Duramag magazines. Never a hiccup, Runs smooth but does have a fireball at the muzzle. It is truly a robust upper., solidly built. It is the most fun gun that I own.

I wanted to add a 7.62×39 to my AR lineup and I went through my parts bin to see what I had and started thinking about what I would need to buy or change. A few of my AR friends were pretty discouraging about how they had tried it and had very unreliable results for various reasons. Ultimately I decided in this case it would be better for me to buy than to build. Boy was I right! I have dropped this on a few different lowers to make sure it's not a fluke. This upper will chew through anything I feed it. Brass case ammo, steel case ammo, good ammo, junk ammo, new ammo, old ammo, you name it. The ONLY think this upper is picky about is magazines. For ME on several different lowers. Duramags worked flawless. I'm not going down the list of what didn't work well it's long. Duramags and this upper in every lower I tried ran everything. 7.62×39 is cheap. Yes the upper is expensive – have you checked out the price of 5.56 or 300 Blackout lately? If you need to train or want to shoot this is money well spent. Plus sometimes just having something different is cool!NOTE: I bought the MILSPEC version. You will need to consider your buffer weight depending on the caliber you purchase.

Awesome upper, rings steel at 100 yards all day. I had ZERO malfunctions using in semi auto and in Echo Mode (Fostech echo sport). I used with an H1 buffer, I may try out an H2 just to slow it down some. I’m buying another in 7.62×39 to build another pistol. This is a great set up when you can’t carry a rifle, I carry mine in a Vertx Commuter XL 2.0 with room to spare. Buy this upper if you want a compact reliable all around fun gun!!!

There is an issue with cycling 223 cartridge to the 556 upper receiver. I was able to isolate the cause. I sent it for repair in maxim defense, but after they replaced the barrel, gasblock, the issue is still there. The last reply they gave me are as follows. So it seems that this is a universal issue with their upper. With this price range, it seems ridiculous that it will only run 556 ammo. Other upper that are way cheaper don't have this issue. The PDX 5.56 is built and tuned for 5.56..223 is not recommended, it is too soft of a load and may not run well.
