The Spike’s Tactical billet upper Gen II receiver is not just another different cosmetic alternative to forged upper receivers but it’s actually designed with functional upgrades that aren’t available on other billet upper receivers! It is machined out of 7075 billet aluminum and finished off in a durable Type III Hardcoat anodized. Of course, we cut the M4 feed ramps before the anodizing process to avoid reliability issues down the road. We also flared the side walls of the receiver to eliminate accidental bolt release problems and we also machined the upper receiver in a way that lets you use the popular Magpul BAD lever or other aftermarket bolt catch levers which most other billet upper receivers don’t let you do. NOTE: Our billet upper is not compatible with all aftermarket bolt catches. I wanted something unique and perfect. I used to not like spikes but this billet upper and lower I also have changed my mind. Legit! It mates well with my spikes lower duh. My ar pistol feels like a toy it's like 5 lbs lighter than my ar10 pistol.

I purchased this upper because of another review and having read elsewhere that the inside diameter for the barrel is undersized compared to mil spec requiring the use of a heat gun to fit the barrel. (similar to what JP calls thermofitting). Ideally I wanted a JP15 upper, but only the JP CTR02 upper ever seems available, and the CTR02 doesn't include basic features such as the ability to install a dust cover. Having read that this comes with an undersized ID for the barrel extension and required heat to fit the barrel I was expecting an upper similar to the JP15. I was disappointed to get this and find out that the ID is just plain old mil-spec. When I noticed my barrel fit right in with a little slop just like with other regular uppers, I checked it with my calipers, and sure enough, it measures right dead in the middle of the tolerance range for mil spec.

the review title basically says it best….BUT the review has to be of a certain length. this is a high quality upper and it looks amazing with the spikes billet lower…you won't be disappointed in this one…in form or function. A+++

I have this receiver for an AR target rig setup using a Bruce Finnegan barrel and a Battle Arms enhanced bolt carrier group. I could not be happier with the attention to detail that this receiver has. Absolutely no sharp edges near bear surfaces, looks like a interior coating for the bolt to ride, and with my particular barrel the install did require a little heat from a heatgun for proper seating which is excellent for the purpose of my rifle. Makes things very snug right where it needs to be!!! Outstanding choice for a precision oriented build!!!
